On behalf of the US, Spokeswoman of the US Embassy in Thailand Melissa Sweeney voiced satisfaction over the Thai attorney-general's decision to prosecute senior army officer Lt Gen Manas Kongpan and 71 accomplices for their alleged roles in the trafficking of Rohingya people.
The spokeswoman said, to solve the human trafficking problem in a sustainable manner, long-term commitment and determination would be required.
Therefore, the US would like to see Thailand continue to maintain stringent law enforcement and bring all culprits to justice regardless of who they are.
According to Ms Sweeney, any anti-human trafficking operations conducted after April 1 this year will be taken into consideration by the US Department of State when preparing its Trafficking in Persons Report for next year.
Phuketwan will be carrying its own version of events relating to trafficking in the next few days.
There are certain types of people who will do anything for money. Sell drugs, sell people and cheat and scam wherever possible. This is not decided by social status but character.
