Tuesday, July 21, 2015
PHUKET: Police have nabbed drugs worth 40 million baht south of Phuket in a series of up-the-ladder arrests that have netted a number of dealers who say the ring mastermind is already in jail.

The dominoes began to fall on Friday with the arrest of Chaowalit Limpanit, 39, in Krabi with 80 ya bah tablets and a gun. Next to be nabbed were Sakkariya Leemud, 30, in Songkhla and Saowapak Harnkla, 44, on the island of Lanta in Krabi province, with police confiscating another 900 tablets.

The apprehensions went to a new level with the arrests of a couple, Surasak Tangkara, 32, and Kulrat Watchararisewin, 35, in the car park at the Robinson store in Trang province.

Inside the couple's vehicle police found 180,000 ya bah tablets and 7.1 kilos of ya ice. The methamphetamines were valued at 40 million baht.

Later police took possession of two guns, three cars, a pickup and more than 200 bullets.

The couple claimed their contact was a man in Khaobin Jail, Rachaburi province.

The final arrest so far was of Achaia Paotong, 36, whose husband is in the jail, but she denied knowing anything about the drugs or the alleged network of dealers.

This is good work by the police - this must put a dent in the supply chain. Well done - keep at it.
