Forest department officials join police in arresting Samui touts

Samui Police Arrest Five Photo Touts, Rescue Six Gibbons

Thursday, October 15, 2015
PHUKET: Officers at Bophut Police Station on Samui arrested five photo touts and confiscated six gibbons and a white hawk yesterday. The animals are to be transferred to a rescue centre in Phang Nga. Police on Samui say they make arrests every month but small fines mean the touts keep reappearing with other gibbons.

Thailand needs to make this a mandatory minimum 1 month jail plus up to 1 million Baht fine. Quality tourists don't want to see this and many will not come back it looks so cruel.

yes a bit of conumdrum they usually take the gibbons as juveniles and WWF reckon at least two gibbons are killed every time they take a baby, needs bigger sentences for sure

was only about ten years ago you could still hear the beautiful wake up call of the gibbon in Phuket town
