At the pointy end: Two Russian tourists identify an alleged kicker last night

Russian Tourist Kicked at Phuket Beach: Suspect Surrenders to Police

Wednesday, April 1, 2015
PHUKET: Two Russian women have identified a man who alleged kicked one of them when he failed to start a conversation at a Phuket beach this week.

The women were at Karon beach, near the lagoon, when the man approached them about 9.30pm on Thursday.

''He tried to talk to us but we couldn't make conversation because of the difference in language,'' Marina Panko, 24, told officers at Karon Police Station. ''He seemed to be frustrated and kicked me several times.''

Officers at the station where she reported the incident took her to hospital for a medical checkup.

Yesterday, the hunt for the man became quite widespread with officers checking security cameras to see whether the perpetrator could be identified.

About 8pm last night, Jaruay Wongkleang, 32, walked in at the police station to give himself up. He is likely to face a charge of assault.

Obviously, these girls don't know anything about the seduction techniques of the youngsters in Phuket.

What a punk. I only wish that the police would start coming down on these losers REALLY hard, thus sending out a clear message that this type of behavior will not be tolerated. However, my level of confidence that the police will do something meaningful is pretty low., and this cowardly little punk won't learn much of a lesson.

After sunset there are no police beach patrols, ( also not in day time actually). So, law wise Phuket beaches are 'law free'. Tourists don't know/not expect that. Tourists believe the thai smile. This encounter must have been shocking to the girls, experiencing the dangers after sunset.
Sad for Phuket that this article will be red worldwide. A job to do for the Governor.

Kicking is the Thai male's foreplay.

'Kick-starting motorbikes is the norm, so why not with women?' he thought...

An excellent example of correct pointing, vastly superior to some of the shoddy and lackadaisical pointing that we so often see in these news reports.

@Ed Sanders

what you mean to com really hard on those punks , if the law provides just following

Section 391 Whoever, commits an act of violence not amounting to bodily or mental harm to the otherperson, shall be punished with imprisonment not exceeding one month or fined notexceeding one thousand Baht, or both.

so he most likely will be fined 500B as he turned himself in.

@Kurt you often make negative comments Kurt, if you do not like it here in Phuket, leave there are flights leaving to many global destinations from the upgrading Phuket airport. I have lived here many years and have travelled from the UK to Australia etc and I can tell you that Phuket is very safe in comparison. Go to any major Western city on a Friday night and see how much alcohol related violence there is. You pick on one very isolated event which happens in any populated area. Kurt stop moaning leave if you hate Phuket.

@ Welcome to Phuket

If everyone always "just left", like you suggest, nothing would ever get better and we'd be still living in caves.

As to your subjective sense of safety, wait until you become a victim of crime here and the suspects are Thai.

CCTV cameras "broken", nobody saw anything despite incidents taking place right in front of the police check box (Mr Trotnow for example), police not interested in investigating or even interviewing suspects.

Add to that all the unreported incidents because most of us expats know asking the police for help only makes matters worse.

Violent crimes can and do happen all around the world but what makes Phuket a negative exception is how as a foreigner your chances of getting justice here are very slim indeed.

I'd take a few western drunks under unbiased police force any day in place of a feeding frenzy of locals ganging up for a farang bashing and police turning a blind eye.

We all know how well mannered and smiling the Russians are. They must have been totally shocked! Has anyone ever seen a Russian smile or are they too busy making bombs.
