The Phuket beach tonight as onlookers hope the Russian man will be found

UPDATE Russian at Phuket Beach Fights With Girlfriend, Walks Into Sea, Now Feared Drowned

Updating All Day, Every Day

A SEARCH abandoned at 11.30pm on Wednesday resumed Thursday at first light for missing Russian Pavel Mironov, 27, after he walked into the sea following an argument with Inna Tsyrenova, 31. The pair arrived on Phuket earlier that day.

Original Report

PHUKET: A Russian man is missing, feared drowned, after he appears to have walked drunkenly into the sea at a beach on Phuket and vanished following a row with his girlfriend.

The woman, aged in her mid-20s, was on a small Phuket beach, north of the more popular Patong beach, late tonight as would-be rescuers searched the water in the dark.

The couple had been drinking and rowed, officers from Patong's Kathu Police Station were able to glean from the woman via sign language.

The man walked into the sea wearing a backpack and the backpack has since been found.

Although there were scores of people at the small beach hoping for a successful rescue tonight, nobody spoke Russian and Thai so no translation could be made of the night's sad events.

The couple were staying in Patong, the officers managed to learn.

Alcohol is often a factor in drownings on Phuket.

German Frank Retsh, 34, drowned at Phuket's Nai Harn beach on October 8, a day when red warning flags were flying.

Ed why have you tried so hard not to name the beach?

I hope they find the missing man fast asleep under a tree.

I would at least expect the name of the beach. 'a beach on Phuket' 'a small Phuket beach'.

How many small beaches are there on Phuket between Patong and Kalim, stevenl?

Your expectations far exceed your level of contribution.

TBs and Stevenl is the name of the beach the most relevant issue, would this be unique to any particular beach? No of cource not, leave the Ed alone and focus on the important issues here.

What would help is if someone could tell us whether the small no-name beach between Kalim beach and Patong beach actually has a name.

Ah, so it is between Patong and Kalim? No mention of that in your report.

And yes FF, I do find the name of the beach news worthy.

Your nit-picking is pathetic, stevenl. We posted the story last night, more than 12 hours before the rest. Yet you remain unhappy. Read it somewhere else, stevenl. Pick your nits there. Don't bother coming back.

One small correction. Two Russian speaking volunteer police translators, one who also speaks Thai, arrived at the scene less than one hour after the call went out.

Our article was probably written before they arrived, Nomadjoe. Police had no translation at the time of writing. Unless you are as demanding as stevenl, you can't expect us to fortell events.

I've always wondered what folks do with all the nits they persistently pick? Do they preserve them for later use, like pickles? I mean, at least a big, fat, bumpy pickle has its uses, culinary-wise that is.

The point being, sometimes it's just better to pick your friends more judiciously - or even pick your nose - instead of degrading into "twits" that pick their nits until they bleed. Tissue call!
