PHUKET: A Russian tourist appears to have committed suicide in a Phuket police cell after having been arrested for behaving aggressively.
The man, say police in Patong, was acting in an alarming manner yesterday when he tipped motorcycle fuel over a hired motorcycle and himself and appeared likely to spark a fire.
The renter of the motorcycle went to police and the Russian man was placed under arrest.
His behavior was threatening and police decided to lock him up in cells overnight.
About 8pm last night, the man was found hanging by his shirt in a cell in Kathu Police Station, which oversees Patong.
The Russian honorary consulate has been contacted. The man's body is at Patong Hospital.
