Somkid Pakdeesowan, 31, appeared to have eluded a police checkpoint in Chalong when he fled into the sea off the pier and couldn't be found.
His escape, however, proved far from perfect.
Locals found a body, dressed in a reggae top, floating near Chalong Pier about 10am today.
