Wanchai ''Game'' Saengkhao, 22, threw the girl's body out of the carriage window in an attack that sparked outrage and prompted calls for the execution of rapists.
Imposing the death penalty despite the young man's plea of guilty, the court in Hua Hin said Wanchai's crimes were ''outrageous,'' '''inhumane'' and ''could have an impact on society's order.''
The girl was traveling with two of her sisters from their home in southern Thailand to Bangkok on their first solo train journey.
When the sisters, ages 22 and 10, awoke in nearby beds, they found their 13-year-old sister missing, and a nationwide manhunt began.
The girl's naked body was found three days after the murder in bushes alongside train tracks in western Thailand.
Wanchai, a temporary train employee whose job it was to make beds in the sleeper cars, confessed to drinking beer with his colleagues and taking drugs during his shift that night then raping the girl.
The court also sentenced a 19-year-old train employee to four years in jail for aiding Wanchai with the rape.
The governor of the State Railway of Thailand was dismissed after the attack and more checks imposed on the background of staff.
Justice works fast in Thailand if you don't drive a Ferrari etc.....
Although I am again death sentences, its good that the grieving family has some kind of closure.
