Policeman Charged With Lese Majeste Dies After Hanging in Cell

Saturday, October 24, 2015
A POLICEMAN who was arrested on lese majeste charges has been found hanging in a cell and has since died as a result, says a media statement from the Corrections Department.

Witthaya Suriyawong, director general of the Corrections Department, announced that Prakrom Warunprapha was found hanging from a bar in his cell at 10pm last night.

Khun Prakrom was still alive when found hanging. Officials attempted resuscitation and rushed him to the prison hospital where he was pronounced dead, Khun Witthaya said.

The policeman was one of three suspects held at the temporary prison following an order of the military court on Wednesday.

Until his arrest, Prakrom served as an officer in the Technology Crime Suppression Division and was involved in investigating a number of lese majeste cases.

Is it not standard practice in Thailand to remove items like belts and shoelaces before locking them up ?

Editor Comment:

We don't know enough about this death to start speculating, Herbert.

@ Herbert. Yes, that is standard practice. Prisoners get prison clothes ( light brown in colour) + slippers..
The man did hang himself with his shirt.

Were you there, Kurt, or you once again claiming to state a fact by quoting a source you fail to name? Try ''According to . . . ''

Mr Editor, to answer you question respectfully: It is/was all published in The Bangkok Post.

It's about time you quoted your sources, Kurt, instead of pretending to know everything.

mr Editor, quite a number of PW readers notice that your comments on readers comments become sour, lately much more than before.
Often you comment on readers comment that they not add value in their comment.
Can PW publish rules for readers who read articles and comment?
Readers respect your report-writings and do comment.
Do you feel it is needed to slamp down/criticize on readers comment when it is written in a civilized way?
What is wrong, can you not understand that readers with different backrounds/nationalities sometimes not fit in in your framework of thinking?
Be a bit more relaxed and more 'sporty'. Don't try always to be a 'single judge' in your comment on comments.

Editor Comment:

You are a top-of-the-head commenter who offers many opinions of no value on a daily basis, Kurt. I think readers who have the time to waste doing a search for 'Kurt' will quickly be able to determine for themselves how much value you add.

You've offered more than 1600 comments at a rate of up to 10 a day. Of your past 30 comments, 19 have been rejected.

The commenting rule especially for you is as follows: quality not quantity is what counts, Kurt. Please try to be constructive and original, credit all your sources, and forget the bigotry.

As much as I will miss the great news-reporting due to phuketwans closure by the end of this year I won't miss the comments of the editor one little bit!

Posted by herbert on October 25, 2015 14:14

Editor Comment:

Why would that be, herbert? Could the truth hurt?

Editor Comment:

I've never lashed out at readers, herbert, just tried to restrain the tendency of some of them to make fools of themselves. Perhaps you should reread the thread and your insults some time soon and give them some fresh thought.

It's also appalling that this kind of thread should appear on an article about a real-life tragedy.

Mr ED, you always go on about the truth, maybe you should be more honest with this headline and say, A major sponsor has come forward, but we have decided to move on.
Submissions for a major sponsor have passed.
We now want to sell outright, or just move on.

PLAY OF THE DAY
"PHUKETWAN, the most popular choice for real Phuket news and views, is closing on December 31. No potential major sponsors have come forward."

In the interests of transparency and the truth, Thai Mouse, your email earlier today and my response are as follows:

''Greetings from a hot calm Cape Town. Yes yes, I will return.
Please may I very secretly ask. What are you looking for in a sponsor and what are your plans for the next five years and what financial benefits are you looking for?
Cheers.
Graham.

Sent from an Earthling.''

''Hi TM,

''I think the time for sponsors has passed. We aim to sell PW and move on, or just move on.

cheers,
Alan.''

''Hi Alan.
Thank you for you time in answering.
I could not answer before, its only now that I have the money to sponsor, but alas I would and will never ever work again in Phuket where I live.
I will have to bemoan not having you and Oi and your news team in the new year.
However on a better note, have all the best good fortune in your lives.
Cheers.
Graham M'M.

Sent from an Earthling.''

Actually my rejected comments 'add a lot of value', just not fit in with present PW policy how to go on until end of December.

Your comments are often pure opinion, unsupported by facts, Kurt. You have been given a certain amount of leeway. From today, you won't be published unless you add value.

Ed, your comments are many times just plain condescending and opinionated. And at times it just seems you have a bad mood. I won't miss it.

Editor Comment:

Unless you have some particular expertise on any issue, MF, you would be unwise to follow the usual standard of PW readers in applying guesswork and supposition to any topic. Your opinion on my behavior is your own, and it proves your opinion on any topic deserves to be questioned. Why? Because your assumptions are wrong. Add value or don't bother, please.
