Pod of Whale Sharks Spotted Off Phuket, Krabi Coast

Sunday, October 25, 2015
PHUKET: Tourists on a speedboat between Krabi and Koh Yao Yai were thrilled to spot three whale sharks - and to watch them in the water. As many as five of the massive creatures could be in the pod, the tourists were told.

Great to see. Magnificent creatures. But to be pedantic as the are actually fish and not whales then I believe it wouldn't be called a pod but a Gam, herd, frenzy or shoal. I may be wrong though.

Too much watermelon pretending to be fruit. We have just been given a fruit platter after lunch. No watermelon.

I had the privilege to swim with these magnificent creatures at Ningaloo in Western Australian this year. One of the best experiences of my life. Shame some country's still eat this beautiful animal.

Boats are not allowed to approach whale sharks at Ningaloo reef, its OK for the whale sharks to approach boats though
Whale sharks are a protected species in Australia with big fines and bans for commercial businesses if you break the rules

Peter - not sure what your point is. Yes whale sharks are protected in Australia, as they should be around the world. it is also legal to swim with them at Ningaloo with a licenced operator.

Point is you are not allowed to chase or harass whale sharks with a boat, you can guess which way they are going to swim and stop the boat and hope they come to you, you do not need to be a licensed operator to do this, only to carry paying passengers do you need to be licensed
