PHUKET: The Royal Thai Navy rescued six fishermen early today who said their trawler was stolen from them by armed pirates.
Malaysian officials later arrested two men on the vessel and were planning to return it to its owner, Fatin Pongteag, 46.
A Navy speedboat sent from Koh Lipe, south of Phuket, picked up the six fishermen who were stranded on an island after five pirates stole the fishing vessel at gunpoint.
Malaysian Marine, alerted to the theft, intercepted the boat at 3.30am and took two men into custody.
The trawler will be returned once paperwork establishes its ownership.
