See in news around the world the fate of the rohingya people has taken a backburner to the storyof Johnny drops dogs what a strange world we live in

Hi Michael

Yes it is strange that the cult of the celebrity often dwarfs far more important stories. A great deal of what is reported as "news" is little more than gossip or anecdotes about the lives of "celebs."

Unfortunately, that is what many readers are interested in. The weight of readers drives circulation which drives advertising revenues.

It would be great if more people in this "strange world" were a bit more compassionate and could distinguish between what is important and what is not.

In my own little corner of the world in note that "The West Australian" newspaper seems to have no coverage of the Rohingya boat people today but the national paper "The Australian" features the story on pages 1 and 4.

I see online that the story has received a great deal of coverage in the Sydney Morning Herald of Fairfax Media.
