The news about Ping signals found is incorrect.

" The chief of SAR added specifically countering media reports hitting the headlines, that NO signal of the blackboxes' pingers have yet been found "

Thanks, herbert. It must have come from a golf club.

@Herbert: If Reuters say 'Signals picked up 1 km from submerged tail' then it bears more credence than your source which is from yesterday, whilst Reuters report is from today.

Pings have been silent for a few years, since instead of placing 14 in one bag someone was caught placing his favourite wood in 14 bags.

Oh, Ping.

AV Herald is by far the most respected, aviation related website. It has a huge base of aviation professionals as contributors.

News agencies, big and small, often get it wrong in and around aviation. Besides, the report here does not quote Reuters.

AV has, I suspect, been wrong in the past and will be wrong again. They do have a good record, like some news agencies and newspapers. None of them are infallible. Let's see what shakes out.

@Herbert: Some Aviation Herald you read. Manowar just reminded me that you don't go looking for Pings, you listen for them!
That's why they couldn't find them!

@ Ed

AV Herald does not really attempt to draw any sort of conclusions, just report verified facts.

Nobody is infallible but I challenge you to highlight an accident or incident report they got wrong.

If you can be bothered, there's an interesting case about Simon Hradecky (Author of AV Herald) being intimidated by Ryanair for exposing safety flaws within the airline.

A modern day David vs Goliath battle which AV Herald won.

Industry professionals across the board hold it in very high regard and unlike news agencies, AV Herald deals with aviation only. Meaning they actually understand the subject they report about.

They are also based in Austria, thus daily updates are usually not published until later in the day Thai time.

If you read into this story on AV site, you can also see why many news agencies got so many facts wrong in the past few days.

News crews onboard SAR vessels draw their own conclusions without adequate technical understanding to put the facts into perspective. Since everyone wants to be the first to break the news, a lot of misinformation makes the headlines.

AV Herald is certainly not the first to report but considered by professionals to be the most reliable and factual source of information.

I know. But there isn't any human professional organisation that is mistake-free, no matter how much care is taken.
