''If bullies in uniform can silence reporters, then you don't have a democracy,'' says Phuketwan editor

You weren't so worried about democracy when the military took over the country.
I remember you cheering them on.....

Perhaps as usual you are missing the point, SB. We supported the coup, but the coup has nothing to do with the unwarranted case brought against us five months earlier.

@Shwe:
Interesting comment as ASEAN integration is just around the corner and Thailand lags way behind because its Foreign Business Act restricts foreign ownership to 49%. Other ASEAN countries have little or no restrictions on foreign investment thus leaving Thailand to fall seriously behind the regional competition by relying on China to provide finance for many of its future projects.

The words democracy and Thailand are not words that go hand in hand right now. The military are in control and will be for the foreseeable future. If they want this to go away it will but it seems they are happy for it to proceed.

One call from the PM would stop this but her also seems unwilling to do so.

Posted by Gary on January 31, 2015 09:30

Editor Comment:

There's nothing provocative about the truth, Gary. There are all kinds of people in uniform - good, honorable, true . . . and one or two bullies. Take off the uniforms and they're human, too.

US to take over Thailand via its usual methods ? Paranoia or more to it? How incredibly interesting.
