smh.com.au A tsunami warning has been issued for eastern Indonesia after a 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of the Moluccas on Saturday afternoon. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre (PTWC) says ''hazardous'' waves of 30 centimetres to one metre are forecast for some coasts in Indonesia.

Phuket Update The tsunami warning would have no effect on Thailand, a spokesperson for the country's Tsunami Warning Centre said this afternoon. A second earthquake, measuring 6.2, was recorded soon after off Indonesia's Sulawesi.

bbc.com Aside from Indonesia, tsunamis could reach the Philippines, Palau, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and parts of Japan and Taiwan, the Pacific warning centre said. The first tsunami waves could arrive within the next six hours, it said, warning that ''the initial wave may not be the largest''.
