200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo.

Fascinating that the descendants of Napoleon Bonaparte and the "Iron" Duke of Wellington shook hands at the old battlefield. Depending on which descendants they were, there is perhaps an outside chance they were shaking hands with their own cousins!

The Duke had a bit of an obsession with Napoleon. After Waterloo he seduced two of the Emperor's former mistresses and befriended the Emperor's sister, Pauline Borghese.

The Duke kept a large painting of Pauline that highlighted her nipples.

The mistresses were an opera singer, Josephina Grassina and an actress, Josephine Weimer. The actress compared the nocturnal performances of the two warriors by saying: "Monsieur le Duc etait de beaucoup plus fort." (The Duke was much the stronger)

I am not sure that this was the source of the term "The Iron Duke" though.

Sounds about as believable as, say, James Packer dating Mariah Carey . . .

"Sounds about as believable as, say, James Packer dating Mariah Carey..."

Well some of those European women love to kiss and tell. What can I say? These days the paparazzi harass celebrities.

Mariah Carey is stunning. Josephina Grassina, the opera singer was also very beautiful.

I typed my first post Ed before the picture of Carey and Packer appeared. Not to be confused with Kerry Packer of course. That would be a weird Oedipus complex.

I was once forced to watch a movie, 'Glitter,' starring Mariah Carey. There was nothing else on the flight. James Packer should be told never, never ever to watch 'Glitter.' It would be his Waterloo.

No one "forced" you to watch the movie "Glitter" starring Mariah Carey, Ed. Be honest.

You could have read a book or a newspaper. Newspapers are good Ed. There is one called The Age in Melbourne you should check out some time.

I noticed one of your other headlines about a singer taking the sultan's cash...

Apparently Nth Korea has discovered a cure for MERS. It also cures AIDS, bird flue, Ebola, Sars and if added to rocket fuel, avoids misfiring of balistic missiles during launch.
It would not appear to be a cure for fools making absurd media releases.

The failure to pass the ICAO safety deadline was known by all industry insiders. There's no way to rectify such serious concerns in such a short period of time.

However Thailand has been warned since 2007 by FAA when it failed their IASA audit.

Those 8 years would have been more than enough to rectify the issues but Thai authorities chose not to. Now they face the windfall.

Next up will be the EU which will issue their decision on June 29th in regard to Thai registered airlines.

In September FAA will conduct another IASA audit.

A good description of action taken and possible consequences can be found here. Though it was issued prior of ICAO confirming the downgrade of Thai aviation, it's very much current in it's analysis.

It will be a miracle if Thai airlines escape without further flight limitations or outright bans.
