IS IT TRUE THAT A FARANG HAS TO CARRY HIS PASSPORT AT ALL TIMES? IF SO IS A COLOR COPY OF THE PASSPORT ACCEPTABLE,BEEN GOING TO THAILAND FOR 10 YEARS & NEVER KNEW THIS...

Fred, we see this asked so often, we have been told that no, you don't, but you do need to carry some form of identification, although as usual in Thailand, it comes down to the officer/authority you are dealing with, keep 500 baht in your pocket, most expats carry their Thai driver's licence/s. We have also been told that a "copy" of your passport will do.
