Tony Abbott is quite correct, they are making a huge mistake welcoming them with open arms - a mistake that will cause issues for generations to come. Why are the Arab states not welcoming them with open arms? It's quite obvious.

These are undocumented people claiming to be escaping war in Syria, but investigations show this is not entirely true and they could well be extremists with terror attacks planned.

Welcoming them is an extremely dangerous policy. No doubt some of them are genuine, but it's quite clear a large number or not. When the terrorism attacks increase, we will know why.

Even more fascistic than Tony Abbott, DT. Segregating the world on religious grounds is a laughable concept. Tolerance is the only answer.

Tolerance must come from both sides. I watched a survey taken in Western Sydney where Muslims were asked if they respected Australian laws or Sharia law. All answered Sharia law. Sharia law is barbaric and belongs in the stone age, so don't ask me to tolerate it.

There will always be those who only see differences, not similarities. As with Phuket's doomsayers, those who don't believe in change are part of the problem. Australia has a long and sad history of failure in human relationships. It will require a more tolerant generation to bring change.

DT you are of course correct. In Utopia we would all live together in harmony but Ed you don't seem to live in the real world. To call anyone a fascist for opposing mass unchecked immigration is an insult to the 6 million Jews that were killed by real fascist. Europe's next generation will pay dearly for this mistake. Australians should thank their lucky stars their politician's have the balls to say no.

Editor Comment:

''Fascistic'' is the term for a particular point of view. It does not mean that Tony Abbott is a fascist but like so many, you tend to rely on exaggeration to try to make your point. Here you are, defending the fascistic. There is an alternative to tolerance, and that's intolerance - as displayed by Fascists. The real world is one of give and take among good neighbors. But some people, Stuart, are always going to be self-obsessed.

Ed, that's just semantics, there's no need to be a pedant, it just makes you look petty.
I do take my hat off to you in that despite all the evidence saying the opposite you always seem to stand by your views even though you are so often wrong.
I wish you well but predict that you will have a very hard time retiring from Phuketwan next year as there'll be no one to listen to your views, except perhaps poor Chutima

Posted by Stuart on October 29, 2015 13:56

Editor Comment:

''Just semantics'' can make the difference between peace and war, Stuart. Those who twist the truth to fit in with their beliefs are mischievous at best and malevolent at worst. My views are shared, fortunately, by right-thinking people everywhere. Yours? Well, it's never too late to accept a change for the better.

gravatar

All Tony Abbott is doing, is to show the rest of the world what most of Australia already knows. He is a right wing buffoon.

The biggest mistake with refugees and especially those who pretend to be, is offering them anything else than safety. They don't need to pass several save states until reaching Germany or Sweden. Temporarily shelter is all I would ask for if being a young male coward leaving my nation behind. Those hordes of young men are selling their nation to the religious fanatics.

@ Stuart

You're not allowed to say "had the balls" on this site. You have to say "had the genitalia" in case Ed gets upset, cos it could also be a woman.

''Courage'' is the word that works with both sexes, EG, and with commenters who don't hide behind anonymous identities.

Ed there you go again with your "anonymous" is "invalid" nonsense. Get with the programme, man. Feel the zeitgeist. If you insist - my real name is Gerald Elephants, but real name or not it doesn't diminish the validity of my case. You really need to stop trying to shoot people down for not using their real name on online forums. It marks you as a fuddy duddy. Oh, wait.....

Posted by Elephants Gerald on October 29, 2015 19:20

Editor Comment:

The kind of ''value'' you add, EG, is limited. It's on the same level as anonymous phone selling, but in your case the recorded message seems strangely garbled. You don't have anything to sell.

gravatar

You don't get it. I'm not trying to add value. I am pointing out to your readership that in some respects you are an ass.

That only comes as news to you, EG. But only the obnoxious point out the obvious.
