As an Australian National I am happy that Mr Abbott is stopping the boats. Australia needs refugees (bludgers off the Australian TaxPayers) like it needs a hole in the head.
If the NY Times had it's way, speaking Mexican would be a requirement for obtaining a US Visa.
No visa ? Send them back to where they came from.
Thanks

How lucky you are, Capt, to come from a family that did not arrive in Australia by boat. Your commitment to compassion is touching. Long may your wallet grow in size and your property values rise. What a pity your heart and brain shrink in similar proportions.

Mr Editor: Family? My Father's side where Irish Gold Diggers that arrived in a square rigger the "Westwind" from the US Goldrush to the Australian Goldrush. They had visas. My mother's side were convicts that arrived on a square rigger. They had visas. They all arrived by boat.
Thankyou for your best wishes.
Effective Border Controls must be permitted to exist and operate.
The size of one's heart or brain has no relevance to effective immigration policy whatsoever.

Editor Comment:

Stopping genuine refugees or sending refugees to foreign countries is not an effective immigration policy, Capt. What would your ancestors think? What do you think about spending $55.5 million to resettle four refugees in Cambodia? Sensible use of your hard-earned dollars? If the problems cannot be fixed in the source countries, then Australia needs to show it has a heart - as it always has for the oppressed in the past.
