bangkokpost.com Commentary: Do we want to build a society where even a former prime minister can be impeached with total disregard to due process? And if this can happen to a former prime minister in broad daylight, then what chances does an ordinary person have against the unchecked powers of the state?

The military rulers are starting to show their true colors. Attitude adjustment camps remind me of cultural revolution in China.
Oppressive online laws in the pipeline, intimidation of the media and deliberately offensive language towards foreign envoys who dare to disagree.
What's next for Thailand ? It's going to get a lot worse before it gets any better. This coup is by far the worst thing to happen to Thailand in as long as I can remember or study the history.

Editor Comment:
This coup was an absolutely necessary intervention to prevent blood on the streets and a possible civil war. Don't screw history to your prejudices, Herbert. It's a fix it coup, not a power coup. Learn the difference. Maintain a sense of proportion, please. The amnesty law would have been the worst thing to happen in recent Thai history. Fortunately, the people rose up and stopped that happening.
