UPDATING All Day, Every Day Many social media users in Thailand have changed their profile pictures, especially on Facebook and Twitter, to show their support for Monday's ''D-Day''.

PhuketWATCH Daily Media Wrap

PHUKET: The daily wrap of Thailand news, with a Phuket perspective, plus relevant reports from national and international media. Beware of inconsistent imitations. Protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban saidprotesters would make a 20-kilometre-long march from Government Complex to Government House on Monday. Suthep picked December 9 to fight against the Thaksin Regime because it is the International Anti-Corruption Day. Protest leaders have described Monday's marches as the ''final battle.'' The Bangkok protests have been going on since November 1, when the House of Representatives pushed through an amnesty that would have pardoned former premier Thaksin Shinawatra. The ''Thaksin system'' is a reflection of a deeper illness that pervades and perverts Thai democracy. Thailand will help the UN and the US with any investigation into reports that Thai immigration officials moved Rohingya refugees into human-trafficking rings, the prime minister says. The UN and the US have called for an investigation.

reuters ''We are aware of reports alleging that Thai officials have been involved in selling Rohingya migrants to human traffickers. We urge the Thai government to conduct a serious and transparent investigation into the matter," US State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf said. Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have issued separate statements, calling on Myanmar to take action to protect the Rohingya Muslim population against extremists. Passengers were left stranded today when a technical problem at an air traffic control centre caused chaos at airports across the UK and Ireland. Thousands of people have been affected at major airports including Heathrow, Stansted and Gatwick.

reuters Organisers hope one million protesters will turn out in Kiev on Sunday to pile more pressure on Ukraine's President Viktor Yanukovich as he seeks closer ties with Russia after dumping a trade pact with the European Union. In its latest fiscal year, the Paris-based Club Med recorded a net loss of nine million euros, reversing a small profit the year before. Only nine of its 66 properties are in Asia, but these are by far its most profitable resorts. Chinese travelers are the largest group of customers at Club Med resorts in the Maldives, Mauritius and Phuket, Thailand. Indonesia must take steps to reduce the possibility of corruption by immigration and customs officers at Bali Airport while, at the same time, reducing queues. A member of the Tourism Promotion Board said illegal bribes and fees at the airport can be thwarted by the installation of cameras supervising customs and immigration counters.

Phuket World Sports Wrap Manchester United 0, Newcastle United 1 (Cabaye 61) That's the first time United have lost consecutive league games at home since 2002.

afp Chelsea slipped to third place after on-loan Liverpool winger Oussama Assaidi scored a stunning last-minute winner to give Stoke City a 3-2 victory.

reuters Red-hot striker Luis Suarez followed a swashbuckling four-goal midweek show with another outstanding display to inspire Liverpool to a 4-1 drubbing of lowly West Ham in the Premier League. The Uruguay international was as lively as ever in the Reds' 4-1 victory and played a part in three of his side's four goals, scoring the third.

afp Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored twice and created two goals as Paris Saint-Germain crushed hapless Sochaux 5-0 to go four points clear in Ligue 1. Thailand coach Kiatisak Senamuang said his team must improve their finishing after they beat Timor Leste 3-1 in their opening game at the men's football tournament at the 27th SEA Games in Yangon. England's shambolic Test showing in Adelaide has been slammed by former players, with Geoffrey Boycott declaring the Ashes ''gone'' and Michael Vaughan forecasting a 5-0 annihilation by Michael Clarke's team.

Dear Ed, I know is out of topic, but I wanna to tell you what shocked me the last week, because seems that you has the only newspaper that care Phuket and can speak almost the truth. It's about 2-4 months I didn't pass trought the hill coming from Karon to Rawai. The last 2 night near Kata view point where ther is very nice sea view i was pimressed by the number of fishing boat. The sea wal illuminated like in the day. I counted more than 100 boat (I think about 200) with impressicv light power- I live in Rawai since 10 year and I never see something like that. Some boat was very close to the rocks (about 100 mt) and the first line of boat, like an army with green light, was long all the coast form one side to the other since the eyes can see. Absolutely shocking!! This in not overfishing: this is a slaughter, a "mattanza".. Poor Phuket: the end will come sooner than I ever think..
