Phuket's commander makes a point and speaks sharply about weapons

Phuket's Tough Cookie Cop Displays Weapons Nabbed in Just One Week on Phuket

Tuesday, November 11, 2014
PHUKET: Get-tough Phuket Police Commander Major General Pachara Boonyasit displayed the horrifying results of a week's crackdown on weapons on Phuket and warned that his campaign to rid the island of guns and knives would continue.

On display at Phuket's Saphan Hin public park in Phuket City today were 31 guns, with the seizures leading to 41 arrests, and 49 knives, over which 49 people were arrested between November 1 and November 7.

''We have to continue the crackdown on weapons because Phuket is a tourist destination,'' the commander said. ''There is no need for people to have guns and knives here.''

He added that in the week, 181 arrests had been made for drugs offences.

A number of sky lanterns, fireworks, copy sunglasses and other items were also on display.

At this rate they will need the new prison sooner rather than later.

Good work Major General Pachara Boonyasit & all your colleagues involved. With each article like this Phuket seems to be becoming a better place.

That's a frightening amount for one week
agree with the Commander whole heartedly
unless you have a firearms license and can demonstrate a legitimate use there not needed on holiday island.

What about the guys who carry guns into Bangkok Hospital Phuket? Why do these imbeciles need guns in a damn hospital and why does the hospital not screen for guns and weapons at their entrances? Too much like work and have to pay somebody to do it?

A stop n search policy (full vehicle search) done on all 'taxis', including tuktuks would result in an arms haul fit for a coup.
