PATONG HILL sprang another hole today. When Phuketwan passed just before 10am, we narrowly avoided becoming the first passengers in the proposed tunnel.
By noon, the hole was being gouged out by backhoe, with a truckload of earth and a handful of semi-professional spectators standing by, watching the work.
Traffic seemed to be flowing quite well, although narrowed to a single lane proceeding from the Phuket City side to Patong. The hole opened up close to the previous hole, but it had changed lanes to overtake, nearer to the centre of the road this time.
The Highways Department says repair work should be complete on Saturday.
Readers' Photos We're over August but August is not over yet, especially when it comes to floods on Phuket. The rain will keep on tumbling . . . but the hope is September will be dry.

Phuket Lashed by Torrential Storm, Flooding
Photo Album Can an island be wet and dry at the same time? Yes if it's Phuket, where an alcohol ban today was accompanied by a furious downpour.

Wow wee. Again a big hole. Can you imagine being in a tunnel when the ceiling collapses. Do we need a tunnel, or maybe just better conservation of what we already have? Only asking. I will stay above ground while travelling thanks all the same.
