Previous work takes place on Phuket's main Patong Hill road

Phuket's Patong Hill to Narrow to One Lane for Five Days of Road Works

Monday, April 27, 2015
PHUKET: One lane of the road across Patong Hill is to be blocked to traffic for five days from tomorrow to allow for repair of the road surface, says the Director of the Roads Department.

Work will close the upward side of the Patong Hill road towards the Chao Pho Suea shrine. The shrine marks the crest of the road between Phuket City and Patong.

Motorists are advised to take alternative routes through Kamala or Kata-Karon while the resurfacing takes place.

Although the closure will only occur from 9am to 3.30pm, backlogs may extend beyond those hours.

Traffic from both directions will be allowed periodically to use the sole lane still operating.

Authorities are concerned that in allowing one lane of traffic to flow alternately between upward and downward travellers, heavy braking may pose an additional safety risk.

Buses carrying tourists towards Patong are already supposed to use routes through Kamala or Kata-Karon rather than going over the hill.

Works on the Patong side of the hill have substantially improved the road surface.

Let's hope the roadworks include effective, properly painted, road markings that won't "disappear" after a week or two.

Fair enough, and thank you ! But please please please paint some lane divider markings while you're at it ! For me that is one of most dangerous aspects of the hill.

Those crazy yabba fueled minibus and airport limo drivers never take any notice of road markings. They own all the lanes including those of the oncoming traffic.

Is it about installing PATONG CITY sign on a descent off the hill not only on ascent? I was sorely missing if to be informed which part of Phuket province I am descending from.
