PARTYGOERS enjoyed hearing from the island's new governor at a Phuket Yesteryear dinner and show last night.
The evening of good food and entertainment was held at the Royal Phuket City.
Dr Preecha Ruangjan, 55, attended briefly before going on to other engagements.
He told Phuketwan that he had strong Buddhist beliefs, one of the reasons why he visited the Big Buddha soon after arriving on the island.
He has been to Phuket once before.
Dr Preecha's wife has come to Phuket with him but their two grown children opted not to move to the island.
Dr Preecha's home province is Phichit and he was the Governor there until beginning work on Phuket on Monday.
He takes over from Niran Kalayanamit, who was on Phuket for seven years as governor and deputy governor, and who now has been promoted to Deputy Director General in the Department of Local Administration in his native Bangkok.
Overseeing last night's festivities was the president of the Phuket Yesteryear Society, Dr Prasit Koysiripong.
Dr Preecha is expected to attend a ceremony for the new big bell at the Big Buddha at 4.30pm on Thursday afternoon.
