Police are hoping that Kamonwan Nookuntood, of Thalang, will be able to tell them what happened . . . if doctors can save her.
The 16-year-old was transferred from Thalang Hospital to Vachira Phuket Hospital in Phuket City after last night's crash on the Paklok-Muangmong Road, the main road east from Phuket's central Heroines Monument roundabout.
She was apparently on the back of a red-plate motorcycle being ridden by Chanrarong Nanphosri, 17, when the motorcycle hit the read of a parked 10-wheel truck at speed.
Khun Chanrarong died at the scene. Police said they could find no motorcycle helmets.
The crash took place about five kilometres from the monument. Police said it was illegal for a 10-wheel truck to park alongside a road without lights.
Several protests have been held by local villagers on the stretch of road over crash fatalities in poorly-lit sections. The latest took place earlier this year when two locals on a motorcycle and sidecar were hit by a pick-up and killed.
Police said it was illegal for a 10-wheel truck to park alongside a road without lights.... so sad. I hope the driver is dealt with!
