And the mayhem continues. Two Supercheap trucks crashed off Phuket's roads in separate smashes less than 12 hours apart.
About 5.50pm yesterday, A SuperCheap truck careered off Phuket's main Thepkasattri Road artery in Srisoonthorn, bound for Phuket City. The truck slewed onto its side on a grassy patch in rain, missing poles and other immovable obstacles. Two injured men were taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital for treatment.
About 10pm last night outside the Chevron showroom in the bypass road, two men who appeared to be too lazy to go to the next u-turn at Tesco Lotus, rode a motorcycle across a median strip and into the path of a fast-moving vehicle. The pair, who were not wearing helmets, were taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital.
About 10.45am today, a second SuperCheap truck crashed off Viset Road in southern Phuket. Again, two men were injured. And again, they were taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital. .
Officials ceased issuing monthly updates on Phuket's toad toll in April, 2012. Because no details are revealed, the death and injury toll on Phuket since then is not known. Expat residents and tourists - especially those riding motorcycles - make up a disproportionate number of casualties.
Friday afternoon a truck carrying a crane through Kamala also struck the lights (literally) - pulling down power cables, snapping a power pole and a light standard as well. Power out from 1800 until about midnite, with the PEA doing a sterling job to get it all sorted out. They must have had a 20 man crew working away furiously, even the bosses were out.
