Lukas Matena came to Phuket for a holiday on December 11 with his wife and four young children but the time in Thailand soured when young Rebeka was injured.
She was first treated at Vachira Phuket Hospital in Phuket City then transferred to Bangkok Hospital Phuket, a better-equipped private hospital not far away in the same road in Phuket City.
Tourist Police tapped Lukas on the shoulder in Soi Bangla, the tourists walking street in Patong, on the holiday island's west coast, after he had been busking for four nights.
They understood the problem and went along to visit Rebeka, as well as making some suggestions about how he could raise money if it became a serious issue.
According to the cardboard sign in English and Thai where Lukas was playing his guitar in Patong: ''Thank you for listening & helping us to cover insurance excess of Rebeka's operation.''
It may be that the insurance company eventually realises one of their customers needs help, even if it goes beyond the original terms of the contract.
I praise Phuket police for keeping a "blind eye" in this case. This is showing Humanity.... Mentioning a Thai-bank account for a small donation woul be welcomed by me to....
I'm not a frequent visitor or fan off Noisy Bangla Road.
