PHUKET: Police believe a pre-existing condition is the likely cause of death of a 65-year-old Australian tourist, an officer in the Phuket holiday centre of Patong said today.
A maid used a spare key to open a room and found the man about 8pm last night after he hadn't been seen at Nicky's Handlebar Hotel in Rat-U-Tot 200 Pi Road.
The Australian was lying face up on his bed dressed in underwear.
''There were no signs of any disturbance,'' the Patong officer said. ''He did have some medicine with him so we believe his death may be from a pre-existing condition.''
The man arrived alone on Tuesday and was due to check out next Thursday.
Australian embassy officials have been notified. His body is at Patong Hospital.

Having lived in other "tourist" areas in Australia it is just staggering the amount of deaths here compared to them. Very sad.

It's quite simple, really. That's because normal deaths go unreported in those other ''tourist'' areas in Australia. We report them only because there is no coronial system here. There is no ''staggering'' amount of deaths. Death anywhere is very sad, but don't expect death to ever take a holiday.
