PHUKET: All of Phuket's police station superintendents and leading tourism authorities were meeting at Phuket Police Headquarters today about the security and safety of tourists for Phuket's high season.
The special meeting was called by Phuket Police Commander, Major General Pachara Boonyasit.
As well as Phuket senior police, representatives from the Thai Hotels Association, Immigration, Phuket International Airport, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, Public Health, Marine Office 5, Tourism and Sport and local district and council offices were represented.
The high season begins on Phuket from November 1, along with the three-day Patong carnival.
Since last high season, all Phuket beaches have been cleared of sunbeds and umbrellas and vendors as well as many illegal shorefront restaurants and beach clubs.
The murders of British tourists Hannah Witheridge and David Miller on Koh Tao in the Gulf of Thailand and the drownings of an Indian couple and two South Koreans in separate incidents off Krabi and Phuket this month have highlighted concerns about the safety of tourists in the country.
