PHUKET: FC Phuket should play with renewed vigor this weekend once the news spreads that the Kata Beach Resort Group aims to save the island's ailing football club.
Kata Group President Pamuke Achariyachai offered his support yesterday, undertaking to save the club and taking on the role of FC Phuket president.
Details of the deal are expected to become public after the handshake between between FC Phuket and Khun Pamuke, whose resorts now extend to neighboring Phang Nga as well Phuket.
The club needed support after being denied the backing of the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation midway through the last Division One season. The ruling that meant all administrative organisations throughout Thailand could no longer suppoer clubs run as private businesses.
With the continued supply of players and encouragement from powerhouse parent club Muangthong United, FC Phuket signed up again for a new Division One season.
The team is now languishing close to the bottom of the table, with form matching funding. However, tomorrow's away match against Phatthalung FC could see a turnaround now that the Kata Group has put its hand up.
Khun Pamuke is understood to have funded about 10 percent of FC Phuket's capital.
Kata Group opened the Beyond Resort Khao Lak in Phang Nga in March and plans to open Beyond Resort Krabi next high season.
The group's Phuket resorts portfolio includes the Kata Beach Resort, which has a long history of supporting the King's Cup Regatta and other Phuket sporting events.
Last month's International Cricket Sixes was the latest series to find a welcome home at the Kata Group Sports Ground in southern Phuket. International rugby and beach volleyball also have the group's support.
Khun Pamuke, honorary consul for Finland, and his wife, Senator Tunyaratt Achariyachai, Chair of the Senate Senate Standing Committee on Tourism, are two tourism straight-shooters who have faith in Phuket but do not attempt to hide Phuket's problems.

I think this is good news people we have local phuket backers for the phuket team..'Details of the deal are expected to become public after the handshake between between FC Phuket and Khun Pamuke,' this part does worry me a little as hand shake deals here in phuket don't seem to mean what they do in other parts of the world. but there is hope that we might have a team to support beyond this season,Great News.
We lOVE FC PHUKET
