Phuket Road Toll Lower than Last Year

Monday, May 30, 2011
PHUKET: FIFTEEN people died on Phuket's roads in April, bringing the total of deaths so far in 2011 to 45, four fewer than at the same time last year.

The tally for last month included six Burmese who died when a pickup hit a tour bus while descending the road from Phuket's Big Buddha on April 17.

All of the tourists travelling in the bus escaped serious injury. The crash was followed by roadwork that widened the bend. A previous fatality occurred on the same bend in 2010.

Ten road deaths were recorded on Phuket in April the previous year.

There were four drownings on and around Phuket in April, bringing the tally for the year to 14 so far compared to 12 at the same stage in 2010.
