PHUKET: A young resort intern, robbed at gunpoint yesterday, told today of her fear as two robbers on a motorcycle struck.
''We had been jogging around Laguna Phuket,'' said Duangnapa ''Tai'' Chanta, 21, who has been working at the Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket.
She and a colleague, fellow intern Nupong ''Rit'' Kongpim, 22, were within about a kilometre of their dormitory when the motorcycle raiders struck.
Two other friends had run on ahead, and one of them turned to look back as the motorcycle pulled up.
''One of the men jumped off and pointed the gun at Rut's stomach. He said 'Give me your cellphone.'
''Then he said he wanted my cellphone as well. It was all over very quickly.''
The shocked pair hurried on and joined their friends, Likit ''Pop'' Kalam, and Sunisa ''Joy'' Jaroenpong, at the Rattawiman dormitory, about four kilometres from Laguna.
The gupoint robbery took place about one kilometre from the dormitory.
''Joy said she had seen the two men earlier. She remembered them riding past us as we jogged through Laguna,'' Khun Tai said.
It was around 7pm. The friends alerted a security guard who tried to call Cherng Talay Police Station but there was no answer, so the interns went there themselves to report the theft.
The two robbers were on a red and black Honda Wave. The man riding pillion pulled the gun from a shoulder bag. He had a moustache and curly hair, she said. He was wearing a black t-shirt and jeans.
The man riding the motorcycle was wearing a black cap, black jacket, a dark brown shirt and jeans.
The pair escaped with Khun Khun Rut's white iPhone 4S and Khun Tai's black Samsung Galaxy S Advance.
All four fourth-year students at Mahasarakam University have been working as hospitality interns and finish up on Phuket on Friday. Today is Khun Rut's 22nd birthday.
Police told the interns that the robbers had struck before but so far had managed to elude capture.
Around lunchtime on his birthday, Khun Rut posted on Facebook in Thai: ''On the eve of my birthday, i shouldn't be experiencing this. The guy pointed at my stomach with a gun.
''Do you know, i was scared? He said: 'Give me the cellphone.' I wanted to run but i was afraid I would be shot.
''Police said his name is 'Dum' and that he is a bastard. I want to let you know, 'Give me my phone!' I'm depressed.''

I'm also depressed that the police haven't collared this guy
