PHUKET: An earthquake off Sumatra was felt on Phuket and along the Andaman Sea coast today at 6.41am.
Fifteen minutes after the quake, the Seismology Bureau of the Thai Meteorological Department said the earthquake would have no effect on Thailand.
The earthquake, measured at magnitude 5.3, was at a depth of 10 kilometres, 260 kilometres from Phuket.
Quakes of that magnitude don't usually trigger tsunami warnings.
Two earthquakes - one in the Sumatra region and a second beneath Phuket - triggered earthquakes that led to evacuations from Phuket's west coast holiday zone last year.
However, the evacuations proved to be false alarms.
Today's earthquake was also felt in Phang Nga.
Well done on that. Others caught napping.
