Phuket Raiders Give Illegal Beach Businesses Seven Days to Demolish
By Chutima Sidasathian Monday, March 30, 2015
PHUKET: Authorities gave 11 restaurants and other businesses operating at Laypang beach seven days' notice of eviction today.
""These buildings will be torn down at the cost of the people running them if they haven't been removed voluntarily,'' said Thalang District Chief Veera Kerdsirimongkol, who led the raid today.
Most of the illegal establishments, near Laguna Phuket, have been erected since the Army first cleared all illegal businesses off Phuket.s beaches and foreshores last year.
The second-generation illegal outlets that have since sprouted up already have been given previous notice of 30 days.
The legal necessity to offer a further seven days after the 30 day notice period expires could mean that the deadline of April 18 looming for beach clubs and restaurants at Surin beach could actually be extended to April 25.

"High-5" to Chief Kerdsirimongkol! This is what it is going to take, persistent law enforcement. Obviously, these illegal business people didn't get the message the first time around, and out of sheer defiance of the law, just tried to re-establish their illegal businesses. I hope the Chief is equally harsh in ensuring that these law breakers clean ALL of their crap up and get it off the beach. Now...the real test is going to be whether the local officials in Surin have as much follow-through as they do in Laypang, or whether there will still be a wishy-washy game of favorites.

They build them quick and cheap. Make a few hundred thousand baht in the time they're built, then wait for authorities to catch up with them.

give them an inch they take a mile.... you just cannot turn your back on these vendors for not even one minute and they are back... there is definitely a place for them but let them all tender for an area to operate in with a legal license if the local authorities can do this honestly and control.... but i am sure once one sets up legally other illegal establishments will return so its a catch-22 situation.. but maybe if people are granted a legal license they will help police the situation... who knows..... only other idea is don't allow anything...

Wished they'd left Reggae alone, been drinking there 9 years, it was an institution, the other bars came along much later when they saw business was ok.

Gen Prayuth may use Section 44 of the interim constitution to speed-up and dislodge the illegal occupations of public lands such as beaches, national parks and forests.

Taxi stand in Surin Beach opposite Twinpalms rebuilt. First a few chairs, then umbrellas, now tables. Time for a "re-demolition".

What kind of report do you want, dresser?
Taxi stand rebuilt. There you go.
The taxi stand opposite Twin palms never really went away. Last time I looked, they'd put a table, chairs and umbrella across the public footpath - completely blocking it.

Second generation outlets?? Do I understand this correctly? So, after first demolish of illegal outlets, the 'vendors' came back and rebuilt it under the eyes of the local authorities? Was there no surveillance at these locations during the time of illegal rebuilding? Are there no daily police/Obor Tor checks on these 'hot spots' to prevent rebuilding-rebuilding-rebuilding. In May or so again a rebuilding to look out for? What are Phuket authorities in that area doing?

No 7 days, Government was sabotaged, the vendors made a long nose to the local authorities. demolishing at once with confiscating all the stock of bottles/drinks and give them the bill. This vendors only understand and respect 1 thing,... their money pockets. Hit them in their wallets + perhaps some time in the monkey house. Thai authorities have to build up respect from vendors.

And at the very same time the parking lot at Patong Beach, restaurants use for tables in the evening, is expanded out in the sand. Strange rules here.

Ahhh 'censored' again Mr Ed- I guess the truth of your Utopia hurts. Comments only published or not 'moderated' when it suits your agenda.

We don't have ''an agenda'' . . . but your constant carping indicates that you do. If you wish to make allegations about officials, provide evidence. If not, remain silent. People who make false allegations will continue to be moderated.
