Phuket Police Commander Major General Pachara Boonyasit aims to develop alternative routes as much as possible.
''If we could transfer 30 percent pf the traffic to other routes, how much more pleasant it would be to get around on Phuket,'' he told Phuketwan this week.
But, the commander said, police should take responsibility for making sure motorists were told where the routes took turns and to signpost each turn.
With the Asian Beach Games due to begin on November 14 and traffic likely to increase and stay intense through the high season, the commander urged police to look at the issue fast.
There's one notorious sign in Cherng Talay that says ''Shortcut to the Airport'' but offers no further guidance along the route, leaving travellers to guess the right way.

Yes, I only noticed this the other day and told a friend, "No way do I trust that!"
Try following road signs around Krabi Province and see how long your patience endures...
