Phuket Police Plan Signposted Shortcuts to Relieve Island's Traffic Trauma

Phuket Police Plan Signposted Shortcuts to Relieve Island's Traffic Trauma

Friday, October 31, 2014
PHUKET: Police are planning to post signs showing the best shortcuts for traffic across Phuket before problems develop with the Asian Beach Games in two weeks.

Phuket Police Commander Major General Pachara Boonyasit aims to develop alternative routes as much as possible.

''If we could transfer 30 percent pf the traffic to other routes, how much more pleasant it would be to get around on Phuket,'' he told Phuketwan this week.

But, the commander said, police should take responsibility for making sure motorists were told where the routes took turns and to signpost each turn.

With the Asian Beach Games due to begin on November 14 and traffic likely to increase and stay intense through the high season, the commander urged police to look at the issue fast.

There's one notorious sign in Cherng Talay that says ''Shortcut to the Airport'' but offers no further guidance along the route, leaving travellers to guess the right way.

Yes, I only noticed this the other day and told a friend, "No way do I trust that!"

Try following road signs around Krabi Province and see how long your patience endures...

'With the Asian Beach Games due to begin on April 14' - you may want to check your dates!

As for the Cherng Talay shortcut there are three signs along the route and its not difficult to work out.

Thanks, we'll fix the date.

We tried the airport shortcut today and quickly came to a t-junction with no hint of whether you should go left or right.

The shortcut to the airport is great and there is more than one sign...in fact there are a couple of signs all along the way up to the airport.

It's about time.
It's a shame there is not enough concern for local residents to incite such action just for the Asian Beach Games.
What about alternative routes for those trapped in Rawai when they decide to build the underpass at Chalong Circle (Ha Yaek)?!
