POLICE are hunting three teenage boys seen playing near a spot where a fire burst out in a parking at Boat Lagoon in Phuket City this afternoon, destroying seven motorcycles and badly damaging eight others. Four bicycles were also destroyed.
The boys were seen leaving the area behind the PTT petrol station at the entrance to Boat Lagoon minutes before the blaze.
A grasscutter, Somruedee Phonlamart, 21, who was working nearby, saw them leave on a motorcycle after hanging around in the vehicle park.
Yacht maintenance staff from the Boat Lagoon were able to bring the fire under control using fire extinguishers within 20 minutes.
The blaze, which broke out about 3.30pm, singed the leaves of a tall tamarind tree.
Some owners of the motorcycles told police they were paying off the vehicles and they had insurance to cover a crash, but not fire.
Police were not making a connection between the Boat Lagoon blaze and a fire at a school in Phuket City earlier in the day.
