The windscreen of the tourist van damaged by a rage attacker

Phuket Police Hunt Phantom Attacker Over Road Rage Assault on Tourist Van

Wednesday, February 4, 2015
PHUKET: Police are hunting a man who attacked a tourist van on Phuket with a hunk of wood or a baseball bat, breaking the windscreen and terrifying tourist passengers.

The apparent rage attack came outside a convenience store in Mai Khao where the minivan from the Baan Mai Khao resort had parked while two guests did some shopping.

A man in a red-plated Toyota Yaris parked near the van on Sunday night got out of his car and conducted the attack.

The van driver and a guide, who were still inside the vehicle, reacted in fright by getting out, hustling the tourists to a safe place, then waiting until it was considered safe to return.

It was the guide's first day at work.

Police say they have no indication as to the motive for the attack, although they believe the Yaris driver was probably drunk.

The car has been impounded at Tachatchai Police Station and police are anxious to have an explanation from the driver.

Maybe he resented the ban on Mai Kho resort.

No indication?
Maybe the driver was driving like a maniac earlier, albeit a week or whatever, and the guy noted the driving licence and took his revenge.

I don't condone violence, but many minivan drivers are atrocious drivers, inconsiderate to everyone else on the road and deserve to lose their licence.

Has a minivan driver ever been arrested or stopped for bad driving or speeding?

The answer is probably not.

Regularly restrain myself from doing much the same thing.
Generally, these van drivers have no regard for safety or common courtesy on local roads.

The safest place for them is not in a mini van at anytime.

Certainly no Thai mini van driver could have done anything stupid, selfish or dangerous enough to cause such anger. Doubtful if this happened for no reason whatsoever.

Tbs, you are absolutely right on the trigger of the attack, that became known from the newest reports. It seems that some informal regulation would be beneficial here, if formal one fails, but probably better without involving tourists at war theater .
