PHUKET: A young tourist from the Philippines is being accused of making a false report to Phuket police with a possible insurance fraud in mind.
The tale told by Wong Wai Ki Warwick Taboctaboc, 22, to Chalong police stretched belief.
He said that soon after arriving on Phuket late on Saturday, he dropped by at a restaurant in Rawai where two men stole a telephone and a computer notebook, leaving him with just 200 baht and no resort booking.
Tourist Police were called in to help and on checking Mr Taboctaboc's shoulder bag, they found a key for a resort, the Rawai Palm Beach.
A trip to the room allowed police to easily find the goods that Mr Taboctaboc said had been stolen.
He faces further questioning and serious charges. Mr Taboctaboc also has a Hong Kong connection.
