Minutes earlier, passenger Suthida Eamsamang, 21, mother of a boy aged two, posted a message to Facebook from Sarasin Bridge, the island's romantic destination for love-torn couples. It was 3.15am in the morning.
She wrote: ''This time we have come too far to turn back. My love.''
A second post from the Svensen icecream shop employee said: ''I am looking for the meaning of life at Sarasin Bridge.''
A last photograph of the attractive young woman on Sarasin Bridge, posted with the messages, could only have been taken by her boyfriend, police believe.
Forty-five minutes later, she and Suthipong Meesiri, 20, were killed when their Mitsubishi pickup collided at speed with a six-wheel SuperCheap truck heading north along the divided freeway, not far from Sarasin Bridge.
''We believe the driver of the pickup went the wrong way back down the highway with the deliberate intention of killing himself and his passenger,'' one officer from Tachatchai Police Station said today.
What's still unclear is whether Khun Suthida, mother of a young son, was part of a suicide pact or whether at the bridge she was posting to Facebook about a split with Khun Suthipong, who was not her child's father.
The two people in the SuperCheap truck, driver Nopparit Sakpirom and passenger Pakapan Chootong, were taken to Thalang Hospital with minor injuries.
Khun Suthida's body was being returned to her home in Phetchabun province today.
Historically, unhappy couples have jumped to their deaths from Sarasin Bridge.
People on Phuket feeling depressed or contemplating self-harm are advised to talk openly with friends or family or consult a doctor.
rather than 'clockwork orange style'the words 'vicious' or 'unwarranted' are probably what you're looking for as far as the type of attack is concerned.. many people will not have read the book or seen the movie and a translation via google or bing into other languages doesn't bear thinking about
