PHUKET: About 600 mourners paraded around Patong today with the body of a young boy who died soon after his mother perished in childbirth.
His father, Nampon Inthawong, 42, a Patong taxi driver, continues to shed tears. Nurses from Vachira Phuket Hospital, where Porntip Booddeeksam, 37, died in childbirth on May 2 and where the boy died from complications two days later, joined the mourners today.
The hospital intends to give Khun Nampon 100,000 baht and the hospital's director has personally added 10,000 baht.
Vachira Phuket authorities are awaiting results from an autopsy performed at the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Bangkok before they will be able to release Khun Porntip's body for cremation.
A committee has been established at Vachira, Phuket's largest public hospital, to examine the exceptional causes that led to the deaths and to minimise risks in future.
The body of the boy was cremated at Lampeach Temple, behind the football field on beach road.

No parent should ever have to bury their children! Poor fellow, 2 in as many days!
