Officials are concerned because every day, their single visit to Khao To Sae attracts scores more thirsty monkeys.
The monkeys are thirsty and the monsoon rains are not expected for another month. Troops of monkeys also rely on Phuket locals now to provide them with enough food.
Khao To Sae is one of two jungle-clad hills that attract tourists to look out over Phuket City.
The two hills, relatively close together, are well-known as ''the breasts of Phuket.''
So far the monkeys on Khao To Sae are the ones who are struggling with lack of rain. There are not so many monkeys on Khao Rang.
Water authorities say there is no need for concern about water supplies, but that's something that has been said in other drought years before rationing became necessary.
Phuket people can't remember a year when the monkeys came down from Khao To Sae before seeking water in such numbers.
As monkey on Khao To Sae under regular conditions are too assertive to check whether visitors have anything useful for them in their palms, so now they probably will do more a kind of "thorough security check"..
Occasionally, you can see now beach dogs looking more for a water than for a food roaming along coastline.
