PHUKET: An elderly man who visited hospital yesterday to seek a longer life was killed on Phuket yesterday as he crossed the road after getting off a bus on the way home.
He was struck and killed by a motorcycle being ridden south in Thepkasattri Road near the notorious Koh Eng curve about 3.30pm.
The 21-year-old woman rider and her 14-year-old passenger both required treatment for injuries but their wounds were not serious.
For Decha di-ar, 65, who lived nearby, the visit to the doctor at Thalang Hospital marked the end, said Lieutenant Thanom Thongpan of Tachatchai Police Station.
A witness said that family members usually met him at the bus stop to help cross the road, but there must have been a communication breakdown.
He was buried later in the afternoon, in accordance with Muslim tradition.
His death raises questions about the safety of passengers on the proposed 23.5 billion baht tram route that could run down the middle of Thepkasattri Road.
