Patong beach, often crowded with parasailers and jet-skiers

Phuket Jet-Ski, Parasail Speedboat Collide at Patong: Tourist Rider in Hospital

Saturday, August 31, 2013
PHUKET: A Chinese tourist was being treated in hospital today after the jet-ski he was riding and a paragliding speedboat collided in Phuket's Patong Bay today.

The crash, about 10.30am, left the jet-ski rider struggling in the sea. Lifeguards rescued him and carried out cpr on the shore.

The rider was taken to Patong Hospital for emergency treatment then transferred to Phuket International Hospital in Phuket City. He was recovering there this afternoon.

Initial reports said the jet-ski rider was about one kilometre off shore when the crash occurred.

The incident is likely to highlight repeated concerns about tourists' safety in the water and the need for zoning at crowded Patong beach.

There are a few important rules at sea that all sailors will know but when it comes to situations involving a speed boat that is pulling a paraglider, then it cannot just deviate from it's course so in this case a jet ski and other vessels that can navigate freely must stay out of way. Hope the Chinese tourist recover well and is well insured.

Not even 48 hours have past On the heels of a fatal speedboat "misshap" in Pattya involving the death of 2 Chinese tourists .....& the 2 day jetski operator training camp.....and threats made to Australian Diplomat...... Love to be a fly on the wall at the Chinese Consuls Office.... Obviously with criminals straight out of prison operating jetskis & speedboats all over the beaches in Phuket the situation is well out of control......

Sad but not a surprise, if you watch the traffic along the beaches around Phuket. People without any clue are operating vehicles which in many countries require driving licences, which you get after attending courses and passing an exam. Just hope for a good outcome fot the injured tourist.
