PHUKET: A woman is fighting for her life after being shot in her home by two intruders late this afternoon - but police have since stopped a pickup that they believe is the getaway vehicle.

Shot in the head at her home in central Kathu, opposite the market and a 7-Eleven store, was Supattra Namfach, 55.

Police say two men entered the house, shot Khun Supattra, and fled with a third man driving a silver Toyota pickup.

A sharpeyed witness spotted Konkaen numberplates and the vehicle was stopped about 20 minutes later by police at the Tachatchai checkpoint, the sole route leading off Phuket.

Khun Supattra is fighting for her life in the intensive care unit at Vachira Phuket Hospital in Phuket City.

Police have yet to determine a motive.

They have been told Khun Supattra was a widow who had a British man as a friend. He apparently spends part of the year on Phuket and part of the year in Britain.

The men in the silver pickup were being interrogated by police.
