Wednesday, August 26, 2015
PHUKET: The new Region 8 Police Headquarters is to be opened on Phuket on September 11 by national police chief Somyot Poompunmuang.

The extensive facilities in northern Phuket, near the Tachatchai checkpoint that controls the road to and from the island, is expected to house more than 200 police.

Commanding the headquarters will be Lieutenant General Decha Butr-nampetch. He will oversee 96 police station through seven southern provinces.

They are Ranong (seven police stations) Phang Nga (seven) Krabi (nine) Phuket (10) Chumpon (14) Surat Thani (24) and Nakkorn Si Thammarat (25).

With a long history of working on Phuket in various roles, Lt. General Decha is also a former Phuket Police Commander.

The moving of Region 8 headquarters from Surat Thani province to Phuket will provide the island with police who could be deployed as part of training exercises and in the event of special needs.

Security of tourists and residents remains the main priority for police on Phuket and in the Andaman region.

So where are the 20 'ghost' police stations then?

Drink Prices will go up again...

Mr.K

I was amazed at 'cocktails" prices 300-400THB that I recently seen on side sois near BangLa/Thaweewong, during the day, and by far not fancy places at all.

That translates into 12EUR at the exchange rate at that moment. That is a price level , say, in Rome in a good disco. And those cocktails in Rome do contain proper amount of alcohol, not something half dissolved bywater like here.

People should be so willing to party at Patong to be happy with such price level.

I am wondering how much a regular cocktail costs in an average night club in Australia?

Now Sue,
the batteries on the abacus are running low. 300-400 Baht = 12 EUR ???.

Wouldnt it be more like 7.4 - 10.0 EUR?

@ Sue, yes you are right on. The prices of drinks is very high. Tourists pay the prices, but once they find out how they have ripped off, they stop coming here. The prices in Patong have to incorporate the extra monies that all businesses have to leave in their postboxes for the BIB to collect.
This is the same problem I have with the beach clubs along Surin and Laguna. Their prices are a blatant rip off.
I avoid the places and never take any of my friends there.
Greed will eventually close down the greed merchants bars and strip clubs and as the ED says here in the comments column, change is inevitable, sometimes for the better or sometimes for the worse.

Anyone know the function or point of the Sarasin bridge checkpoint'...Went through a few months ago and was greeted by a saluting cardboard cutout...Not a soul in sight.
Same same... landed at Phuket airport 2am from China...not one customs officer, just walked through...Amazing Thailand

If elephants can be smuggled onto Phuket on the back of trucks, anything is possible. Perhaps the opening of the Region 8 HQ nearby will lead to improved safety and security. It should start at the checkpoint.
