The ultralight ''flying boat'' after today's deadly Phuket crash

Phuket 'Flying Machine' Crash: Expat Killed in Sea Plunge

Wednesday, February 5, 2014
PHUKET: A German who spends six months a year on Phuket was killed when a small ultralight flying boat plunged into the water off a beach near Rawai today.

The crash took place about 3pm off Laem Ka, the beach alongside what was once the Evason Resort and Spa, on Phuket's east coast.

Witnesses said they heard a ''boom,'' the motor on the ultralight stopped and the aircraft plunged into the water from a height of more than 100 metres.

The man was wearing a helmet but was dead when rescuers reached him.

His body was taken to Vachira Hospital in Phuket City. Aged 63, the man lived when on Phuket in a house in Rawai.

Phuketwan has been supplied with the man's name and the German honorary consul has been notified of the death.

Laem Ka beach is popular as a collection and dropping off point for Koreans on speedboat day-trips.

The Evason, one of Phuket's first resorts, is being reconstructed and will relaunch as the Intercontinental Phuket Rawai Beach Resort in mid-2015.

@jbaemin.. are you saying at 63 people should NOT be able to enjoy life. You really need to get a grip on reality. I have seen/know people well into their 60's who put many younger people to shame,it's a pity you are so narrow minded. I also fail to see how this accident could see "funny," except in your own twisted mind, a man has died.
