PHUKET: Heavy rain is forecast for the next few days, especially on Phuket on Sunday and Monday, but it's not considered severe weather so the Similan islands will stay open.
The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has warned officials on Phuket and around southern provinces that the low pressure centre is likely to bring rain that could be heavy through until next Tuesday, possibly triggering flash floods.
That's close to the start of the Asian Beach Games on Phuket on November 14 but authorities will be hoping that the sunshine bursts through before then and lasts once it does.
By coincidence, Phuket Governor Nisit Jansomwong is meeting with Highway Roads department officials next week to try to make 11 key points around Phuket. less susceptible to flooding.
