Phuket MP Declares He Will Not Contest Election

Wednesday, May 4, 2011
PROMINENT Phuket MP Tossaporn Thepabutr announced today that he will not be standing for re-election in the nationwide poll anticipated for mid-year.

He and his Democrat running mate, Raewat Areerob, easily won the last poll in 2007.

Khun Tossaporn was chairman of a Committee on Tourism and Sport and an unashamed advocate of Phuket while in office.

As the husband of former Phuket politician and now the Secretary to the Prime Minister, Anchalee Vanich, his interest in political affairs is likely to remain undiminished.

The Democrat Party has a strong grip on Phuket. With the yellow shirt New Politics Party opting not to take part in the poll, the Democrats are not expected to be seriously challenged in 2011.
