The Phuket curve claims another victim with a spectacular crash

Phuket Crash Victim Trapped in Car for 30 Minutes: Photos

Wednesday, September 25, 2013
PHUKET: A woman was trapped in her small car for 30 minutes after a pickup driver lost control and crashed on a notorious Phuket bend.

Saowanit Pomor, 32, had to be cut free from her small pink Mira where her leg was trapped in the vehicle.

She was taken to Thalang Hospital for treatment of a broken arm after the crash at the Baan Ko Ean curve on Thepkasattri Road in northern Phuket at 6pm on Monday.

The driver of the Toyota pickup, Rapiporn Chonsin, told investigators that she lost control of the vehicle heading north on a wet road, crossed the median strip and crashed into the Mira.

Khun Saowanit becomes another Phuket road accident statistic.

However, no official figures have been released for the island since April 2012, when monthly updates by the Public Health department ceased.

People drive in Phuket the same way as they would anywhere else in the world where there is zero traffic enforcement. Perhaps it is time for some preventative dangerous driving / speeding tickets ?

She was lucky to get out alive. Those tin cans called 'Mira' are a death trap.

Safer, by my reckoning, than a motorcycle, Buster.

In Thailand apart from their being very little enforcement is there any investigation on whose fault it was and do they have penalty points placed on there license? Does their insurance go up? Many don't have licenses or insurance. Of course not, after all as TAT would say this is Amazing Thailand.

The ol rain excuse, its never I was driving in a manner and at a speed inappropriate for the conditions it just doesn't dawn that the problem is behind the wheel.
